Established in 1865, Zenith became the first watch manufacturer in the modern sense of the word. Zenith’s founder, George Favre-Jacot, had a vision of bringing both innovation and modernity to the artform of watchmaking. This gave rise to the first integrated watch manufacturer in Switzerland, its objective, to create the finest, most precise, and most reliable timepiece ever made. Essentially the perfect watch! To achieve his dream George knew that he would have to bring all the different crafts of watchmaking under one roof. So he built a grand 17,000 square metre site that connected to the train station of Le Locle. This revolutionary site had a workforce of up to 2,000 employees by the start of the 20th century.
The Zenith Defy EL Primero 21 is a stunning example of how this innovative watch maker has fine tuned its craft into the modern day. Introduced in 1969, the El Primero was one of the first fully integrated chronographs. Shortly after this Zenith introduced the Defy, a watch that stood out from previous models from the brand. The Zenith Defy El Primero 21 brings together the best features from the EL Primero and marries them with the head turning looks of the classic Defy models. The technical innovations, paired with the relative affordability compared to similar watches offering the same technical attributes, make this one of the best chronographs on the market.
